Hitting the scene in 2019 with debut LP Flamboyant, a big middle finger to the concept of gender, Electra followed up with 2020’s My Agenda, a triumphant takedown of America’s culture of masculinity. With titles straight to the point like “Edgelord” and “M’Lady,” the album’s lyrics play with irony so deep, yet never fail to stand as defiant political statements. Electra’s music does not lack empathy however, as they hope to always understand opposition. This makes their music videos, looks and their point of view all the more powerful, with an in-your-face style reminiscent of everything from a circus master to an acid trip. Music video “Ram it Down,” the remix of which released this summer, confronts right-wing pundit Alex Jones head-on, poking fun at his absurd claims chemical warfare “turning the frogs gay” by bombarding the screen with all the gay frogs he could dream of.
