On This Day in History June 2, 1935: Famed slugger Babe Ruth announces his retirement from Professional Baseball. Ruth was traded to the Boston Braves with promises of future managerial opportunities and profit sharing from gate receipts. In reality the promises were hollow which were made worse by his conflicts with management and by his poor performance both on the field and at bat.
