bbcsherlockftw:idbelostwithoutmyblogger:Sherlock - still looking to John for guidance :)John is Sherlock’s moral compass.Imagine living in a foreign country, with no guidebook. You speak the language well enough, you think, but occasionally you’ll say something and people laugh and you weren’t trying to be funny, or they’ll get that look - the face that says clearly they are offended, and astounded you would say such a thing - and you thought you were stating something obvious, or even being friendly. But no one ever explains, they just keep looking at you like they assume you’re doing it on purpose, because everyone else seems to get it but you. Worse, you have no native land to which you can retreat when the culture shock grows overwhelming. Then along comes this man. You don’t change yourself because you don’t know any other way to be, but he doesn’t get that look. Instead, he looks impressed, chagrined, mildly annoyed, but never that astoundingly offended look you are so used to by now. And when you do slip up, and other people get that look, he gently mutters a correction, with nothing more than a chiding purse to his lips. And you understand, and you learn, and sometimes you even manage to correct yourself. And you decide - it doesn’t take long - to go where this man points, no matter what.(not sure how I got a writing prompt from ‘John is Sherlock’s moral compass’ but ok) -- source link
