BODY LANGUAGEA week ago I was talking to one of the members in my gym. She injured her shoulder and the pain was getting worse. She told me she was rejecting the fact her shoulder wasn’t functioning as before, because being able to workout means a lot to her. Working out is a big part of her life, and now she couldn’t move her arm, and was in a big pain.I know how it feels. Pain was my best companion when I was a teenager. All my teenage hood I spent agonising from stomach pain. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t eat, at the end I couldn’t cry either, I just wanted to die or disappear. That’s why when I see someone in pain I can connect. Pain is terrifying, paralysing, and shutting you down. Whichever plans you have - forget about them, you just dream to survive this day. As we continued talking I found out she was doing squats with up to 60kg (130lb) weight, plus attending BodyPump 2 times per week. For people who have no idea what BodyPump is - it’s a high repetitions workout with weights, so the technique should be really good while you’re doing it. Summing up her workout history she told me, - you see, Iryna it wasn’t that much. Her shoulder thought differently though. Our body always tries to communicate with us, sending signals. At first the signals are light and might be not obvious, after a while they become stronger, and when we tend to ignore them - boom, you have severe inflammation in your shoulder/hips/knee/back and you can’t move. Of course I’m not talking about the accidents when the injury happens fast, I’m talking about some repetitive actions or exercises that we do day by day. When the injury happens we become angry, anxious, desperate. We think pain is our punishment, and it’s not. It’s a stop signal. It’s a language of your body. Your body is in pain and trying to tell you it’s too much. Your body is asking you to slow down to be able to recover and heal. Will you give it a chance?Photo by @lidophotography #onlinefitnesscoach #pain #injury #recovery (at Khobar, Saudi Arabia)https://www.instagram.com/p/CKTb0GohOtW/?igshid=z8vv0vxtvcus -- source link
