fromthefloatingworld: Kokin Wakashu poem anthology, Heian period This so-called Gen’ei edition is the oldest extant copy of the Kokin wakashu in its entirety, i.e., the preface, written in kana, plus all 20 scroll-volumes of the poems. This edition uses ryoshi paper decorated with several different patterns, using bits of gold and silver in the form of small flakes (kirihaku), tiny narrow strips (noge), and gold and silver powder (sunago). The tasteful calligraphy is attributed to Fujiwara no Kozei’s great-grandson Sadazane (1077-1119). -- source link
