Mural in Sydney in solidarity with the prison uprising in Waikeria, New Zealand. For 6 days prisoners held out against the guards and the cops, in the largest prison uprising in New Zealand for decades. The prison now lies in ruins, after being torched during the protest. The uprising broke out in January 1st in protest of the appalling conditions the prisoners have had to suffer under. Entire wings were burned to the ground and 16 prisoners remained on the roof in the middle of summer for days, despite being denied food, water and being fired upon by police using “less-lethal” munitions. -- source link
