Trust is indeed a palpable quality throughout the book. Avoiding skate clichés and romantised notions of urban life, Pani has captured an honest portrait of adolescent life in Mile End. A skater himself Paul looks beyond the concrete and under the railway bridges, focusing instead on the the skate park is home for the young men that live there.Mile End is an uneasy place for young people to get by under the shadow of sky scrapping tower blocks and alarming rates of child poverty… it’s possible that Paul’s motive to shoot the area was precisely that.
