iylshowcase: Reading Room - Hiraeth - Hannelore CommersBelgian photographer Hannelore Commers shares her memories and intimacies in a booklet titled Hiraeth published by Sunday Mornings at the River. The Welsh word hiraeth means a homesickness for a home you can’t return to. The closer we can come to the meaning is by associating a feeling with it, an emotional reaction that cannot be turned into a translated word, but can definitely be lived in the artist’s alluring images.“We met where loss and regrettouched, carrying burdens that werenot ours to bare, burdens so heavythat they left an imprint on the skinthat only barely covered our bones.”The subjects become so personal and nostalgic as if they were portraits of our own memories and previous encounters. The moving shadows under the summer lights create an intimate and warm atmosphere that feels both distant and familiar. The book is about a longing for a place, a tender home that never was.Order a copy here and see more by Hannelore Commers. -- source link
