Teen Night Planning Committee is having their third free Teen Night, Keeffe It Up!, inspired by Brooklyn Museum’s exhibition, Georgia O’Keeffe:Living Modern. All teens are invited for an evening of live music, food, art-making and more this Friday, May 26th from 5pm-7:30pm.Senior lead, Alma Rodriguez says, “The exhibition Georgia O’Keeffe: Living Modern, changes the way the public sees O’Keeffe. This exhibition showed a different side to O’Keeffe. As an artist myself, I was only exposed to her paintings of her her flowers; however, this exhibition provides an inside look to her personal lifestyle that I had no idea about. It focuses on her wardrobe and her persona through photographs, and other series of mediums. Georgia O’Keeffe’s dark monotone clothing is paradoxical to her colorful paintings of flowers. For example, I loved the change of clothes she does when she goes from wearing black garments because she lived in New York to wearing denim because she lived in New Mexico. Still, her exhibition allows myself, and the viewer to understand that the prime focus of the artwork in the gallery was surrounded around identity and artistic values. As the leader of my teen night, “Keeffe It Up!” I’m excited to be able to incorporate some O’Keeffe influence into the activities that my friends and I came up with. Besides having a DJ, food and interesting art activities for our visitors to do, we are having a fashion show for the first time—something that was never done before at a teen night. I hope that every teen that comes to our teen night has an amazing time dancing, eating or even walking the fashion show to experience some O’Keeffe influence and share the modernization that she tried to incorporate into her art.”Posted by Midrene Lamy -- source link
