“I have been missing Zheng Chongbin’s Skylines in our recently renovated Asian galleries. This beautiful work on paper combines traditional Chinese ink painting techniques and materials with Western pictorial abstraction. At nearly 9x6 feet, the painting extends almost floor-to-ceiling and, if you get up close, it’s easy to get lost in the subtle intricate textures and patterns that the media creates throughout the paper. It can feel like a special landscape—tranquil and natural, as well as gritty and urban—and I suppose I’ve been longing for that now more than ever."
