“The Williamsburg Murals remind me of the possibility of having beautiful and meaningful art for everyone, for free, in all public spaces. When these murals were painted, during the Great Depression and under the WPA Federal Art Project, government acknowledged the value of art and artists by giving them huge resources. The murals were also a lost treasure, uncovered in public housing in my neighborhood. Last but not least, the colors and shapes are lovely—calm, warm, balanced, and full of life."
