“El Anatsui transforms discarded bottle caps into these monumental, resplendent, shimmering sculptures that take your breath away, like Black Block. The use of recycled materials makes me think about our natural environment, which is getting some desperately-needed respite right now. Hundreds of bottle caps were painstakingly flattened, twisted, and sewn together to form a bunched, folded and gathered sheet that reminds me of the quilt I’ve used for years at my parents’ house.
