Bruce Conner, ‘Untitled Leporello,’1993, Hand-painted including stiff board front and rear covers, Black ink on white paper mounted on same throughout. 5 x 3½ inches; extending to approximately 78 inches fully unfolded. Courtesy of Swann Auction Galleries Bruce Conner’s wide-ranging practice tackled the fears, contradictions, and desires of post-war American culture, from the looming threat of nuclear destruction to the ascension of consumerism and materialism. In paintings, drawings, collages, prints, performances, photographs, sculptures, and films, Conner probed the depths of the American subconscious. He produced haunting black-and-white photograms and daring found-object assemblages. His boundary-pushing, avant-garde films featured both fast-paced montage and deliberate, meditative pacing: A Movie (1958) and Crossroads (1976) became celebrated works of experimental cinema. -- source link
